I like this song. It's not quite the kind of music I prefer but this one is really enjoyable.I think that the singer wants to say that the world is dying, and that there is nothing sacred left on the Earth, and that even God has left us,and that sooner or later all what we love will disappear. But we must remain strong and all the difficulties and troubles overcome with a smile.

I guess, it is about people and their sins. The last ones lead us to unbelief and it's not only religious but also unbelief in ourselves. And I have to say that it's the most dreadful thing.
Though the singer tells us not to give up and live our lives as it was said by God or sth.

ОтветитьУдалитьFrankly speaking, I can't say that I liked this song. In spite of the fact that the tune is funny and cheerful, the lyrics have a deep sense. After translating them I felt a little bit depressed. However, partly I agree with the author. I think in this song he wanted to express the disappointment in our present life. People live every day in ordinary routine, spend their time in vain. We stopped to value and notice the simplest things and nothings of life. That's why we hear such pessimistic words at the beginning of the chorus.

In conclusion, I'd like to say that this text is figurative. For example: "A fog is covering your eyes ". I surmise it's about lies or ignorance of the situation.
I can't say that I love certain kind of music. To be honest, I don't really like the tune of this song. But the main idea is covered perfectly. The author uses different stylistic devices which make the gloomy meaning of this song look beautiful and it's interesting to listen to it. The main point that attracts my attention is a big difference between the music and the meaning of this song. I consider that it was done for attracting people's attention to nowadays problems, to show that any difficulty, any problem can be solved, despite the fact that the world is ruining. I think this song is about something infinite. I think this song is about an endless cycle of our life. Maybe the author really lost something important for him and decided to tell it to the whole world…I am impressed by this song…
It's a very interesting song. A happy little song about death. This song causes strange, mixed feelings inside. It seems that Jason Webley sings about something fun and exciting, but if you listen to the text, you understand that it is not so. It's called cognitive dissonance. Music is playful and the way he sings it doesn't converge with a frightening meaning of the song. I like his voice and his enthusiasm. It seems to me like I've already heard this song. It's not the style of music I prefer to listen to but actually I really like it. From the point of musician I can say that the melody is full of variations and it is easy to listen to it, to sing with the singer and to feel his emotions which are expressed in this song. At the same time I clearly understand that this song has the deep sense but then why the melody is so optimistic? To be honest I can't explain it and understand. As someone has said before me, it reminds me a bit of pirate's songs or, maybe, gipsy songs, I think it's because of the tune and the style of singing. What I like about this song is that though the lyrics are serious and has deep sense, the song is really cheerful and amusing, and maybe a little sarcastic, just as if the person is devastated inside, but tries to hide it and keeps smiling.

But when you start to listen to the words and understand the meaning, you can have really mixed feelings. A lot of people have already said that this song has a frightening meaning. From my point of view, the lyrics are organically combined with this melancholic but by no means cheerful music. Of course, he doesn't sing about sleeping in the truest sense of the word, but about sleeping thoughts, brains, points of view. Firstly, young people don't understand how cruel the world can be. The world can be dirty, violent and rotten, nasty in every sense of the words. When I heard this song and thought about its text, it seemed to me that this person just have seen the reverse of the coin (Life). People have reflections like this when they give way to despair.
"The saints were taken out and shot." <- Did all good things in his life lose their sense? And did "the sky" of the author crush down on his shoulders because of this?

I like this song to be honest. I find this phenomena quite interesting, when you combine such deep lyrics with the cheerful melody. It makes this song really unique. As for the meaning of the song, it makes us think about the meaning of the life. We don't notice the simple pleasures of our life, bogged down in the routine of everyday life. In many cases we don't appreciate what we have, but we should stop being so unthankful. We should stay strong and only move forward, despite all the difficulties.
